IEEE PES

The Power & Energy Society (PES) provides the world’s largest forum for sharing the latest in technological developments in the electric power industry, for developing standards that guide the development and construction of equipment and systems, and for educating members of the industry and the general public. Members of the Power & Energy Society are leaders in this field, and they — and their employers — derive substantial benefits from involvement with this unique and outstanding association.

The Mission of PES is:
To be the leading provider of scientific and engineering information on electric power and energy for the betterment of society, and the preferred professional development source for our members ~ Approved by the IEEE PES Governing Board, 17 July 2003.

PES’ Field of Interest is:
The scope of the Society embraces research, development, planning, design, construction, maintenance, installation and operation of equipment, structures, materials and power systems for the safe, sustainable, economic and reliable conversion, generation, transmission, distribution, storage and usage of electric energy, including its measurement and control.

IEEE PES Student Congress

The IEEE PES Student Congress is a worldwide event created by PES (Power and Energy Society) of IEEE, with transitional hosts whose mission is the exchange of knowledge of students and professionals focused on technological diffusion, enhancing the learning of extra skills in specific areas of activity.

This event brings together members of PES student chapters from several universities around the world, as well as newly trained professional members, to exchange experiences, present student chapter projects, meetings among presidents, and other activities. In addition, technical and motivational lectures, workshops, technical and non-technical visits, cultural activities and integration among students are planned for the event, in order to increase the importance of participation by members.

In 2018, the third edition of the event was organized by the IEEE PES South Brazil Section Chapter, at Universidade Federal do ABC, in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo with the participation of more than 100 student delegates from all over the world.

The Second IEEE PES Student Congress was held August 15-17, 2016 at the RHR Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was an event organized by 4 universities, and this time it counted on 68 students from 24 different countries.

The first edition of the IEEE PES Student Congress was held from 29 to 31 August 2014 at METU in Ankara, Turkey. This edition counted on 40 students from several countries and 6 international speakers.

IEEE

The IEEE – Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers – is the largest professional institution in the world focused on technological advancement for the benefit of humanity. It is not for profit and is present in more than 160 countries in the world, with 430,000 members. Its members are engineers, scientists, students, and professionals whose technical interests are related to computer engineering, electrical, electronics, telecommunications, biomedical, aerospace and all its related disciplines and ramifications for many other areas of knowledge.

The IEEE publishes approximately one-third of the technical literature in electrical engineering, computing, and electronics. It is also responsible for over 300 major annual conferences. The IEEE leads the international creation of standards used in many services such as telecommunications, information technology and the creation of power products and services.
